A common scenario. You installed Rublon for Windows Logon & RDP. Then, you attempted to log in to Windows and provided your credentials. After a while, Rublon Prompt appeared and you chose one of the available authentication methods. You confirmed your identity and were successfully logged in to Windows. But there’s something you noticed. That short period of time, which starts after providing correct credentials and ends when the Rublon Prompt appears. ‘Is it possible to make Rublon Prompt loading even shorter?’ you wondered.

Well, here comes the answer. This article is going to address how you can speed up Rublon Prompt loading on Windows Logon & RDP.

Disable Active Directory email querying

Rublon for Windows Logon & RDP allows you to define individual email addresses for your users. You can specify an individual email address for each user in their E-mail field in Active Directory. When the system is first started, Rublon for Windows Logon & RDP runs a query to check if the user has an email address assigned to them in Active Directory. Rublon Prompt has to wait for the query to complete, which might take some time. Active Directory email address querying is enabled by default, but you can disable it. Disabling Active Directory email address querying significantly speeds up Rublon Prompt loading.

To disable Active Directory email address querying:

1.  Go to your Windows Registry and locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Rublon\WindowsLogon.

2. Change the value of shouldTryToGetEmailFromAD to 0.

What happens when you disable Active Directory email querying

Rublon identifies users by their email address, so if Active Directory email querying is disabled, Rublon has to somehow come up with an email address. Rublon does that by glueing the user’s Windows user name with the emailDomain set during Rublon for Windows installation (emailDomain can be later changed in Windows Registry). Rublon creates an email address in the following way:

username + @ + emailDomain

Individual email addresses for Windows Workgroup Accounts

Disabling Active Directory email querying does not prevent you from defining individual email addresses. You can still define individual email addresses for Workgroup Accounts.

Starting with version 2.3.1 of Rublon for Windows Logon & RDP, you can specify individual email addresses for Windows Workgroup Accounts. If you need individual email addresses and you are not using Microsoft Active Directory, disable Active Directory email querying and enable Local User email querying to gain a considerable boost to Rublon Prompt loading speeds.

In order to set an individual email address for a Windows Workgroup Account:

1.  Go to your Windows Registry and locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Rublon\WindowsLogon.

2. Change the value of shouldTryToGetEmailFromAD to 0.

3. Change the value of getLocalUserEmail to 1.

4. Press the Windows and R keys simultaneously. A window will appear. Type netplwiz and click OK.

5. A User Accounts window will appear. Select a user and go to Properties.

6. Select the General tab.

7. Enter the email address in the Description field.
